Sometimes I need to get into bed for a while. If I’m not having a particularly good day, or I’m feeling particularly anxious or down about something, I need to wrap myself in my duvet until I feel better. It’s a place of safety, warmth and comfort.
I have learnt over the last few years that my mind can go down a terrible path if I don’t try to stop it. Sometimes that feels impossible, and I am completely overwhelmed by negative thinking. Sometimes I just need to cry it out. Other times however, I just try to watch something that’ll focus my thinking elsewhere.
Even though at that point I am in no mood to laugh, there are a few channels that will always lift my spirits whilst I’m struggling with my emotions. Here’s a few of my favourite YouTube channels that’ll get me laughing out loud:
1. Jenna Marbles
The Queen of YouTube (in my eyes anyway). Her videos always perk me up, and this one in particular had me giggling aloud. Though I’m obviously jealous of her millions of pounds worth of income from YouTube, I respect her for never really changing her humour.
2. WowPresents (UNHhhh)
If you like Ru Paul’s Drag Race – and if you don’t then maybe you haven’t actually watched it yet – you’ll love this YouTube show on WowPresents featuring the hilarious Katya and Trixie (both Season 7). They’re both so wonderfully weird it’s hard not to at least crack a smile at their strange conversations or storytelling.
3. Screen Junkies (Honest Trailers)
This is one of my favourite things on the internet. Sometimes I just watch a dozen or two Honest Trailers in one go because they are that good (and that addictive). This one has to be one of the best – I haven’t seen Suicide Squad but I’ve heard how bad it was, and this hilarious trailer for it just reinforces that.
4. Liza Koshy
Yep it’s that girl from Vine – she’s absolutely huge on YouTube (and has been for a while now). I prefer her earlier videos but most of her stuff is pretty funny. I remember having a particularly bad morning (no shower, no food, terrible mindset) and I just binge-watched loads of her stuff for hours. Afterwards I felt like becoming a YouTuber myself (though realistically I would never do that) and actually got in the shower to start doing things with my day.
5. Bad Lip Reading
I hope that you’ve seen the bad lip reading version of Trump’s inauguration by now – if you haven’t, please do. It might make you feel just a tiny bit better about current affairs. I love this kind of humour anyway, and love to do my own bad lip reading/voice overs for movies and TV shows (mostly if I’ve had a drink). It’s simple but brilliant humour. I dare you not to at least do an internal giggle.
