5 YouTube Channels That Make Me Laugh (When I Really Don’t Feel Like Laughing)

youtube channels to make you laugh, youtube channels to cheer you up, funny youtube channels, recommended youtube channels, funny youtube videos, this stuff is golden, mental health, self care,

Sometimes I need to get into bed for a while. If I’m not having a particularly good day, or I’m feeling particularly anxious or down about something, I need to wrap myself in my duvet until I feel better. It’s a place of safety, warmth and comfort.

I have learnt over the last few years that my mind can go down a terrible path if I don’t try to stop it. Sometimes that feels impossible, and I am completely overwhelmed by negative thinking. Sometimes I just need to cry it out. Other times however, I just try to watch something that’ll focus my thinking elsewhere.

Even though at that point I am in no mood to laugh, there are a few channels that will always lift my spirits whilst I’m struggling with my emotions. Here’s a few of my favourite YouTube channels that’ll get me laughing out loud:

1. Jenna Marbles

The Queen of YouTube (in my eyes anyway). Her videos always perk me up, and this one in particular had me giggling aloud. Though I’m obviously jealous of her millions of pounds worth of income from YouTube, I respect her for never really changing her humour.

2. WowPresents (UNHhhh)

If you like Ru Paul’s Drag Race – and if you don’t then maybe you haven’t actually watched it yet – you’ll love this YouTube show on WowPresents featuring the hilarious Katya and Trixie (both Season 7). They’re both so wonderfully weird it’s hard not to at least crack a smile at their strange conversations or storytelling.

3. Screen Junkies (Honest Trailers)

This is one of my favourite things on the internet. Sometimes I just watch a dozen or two Honest Trailers in one go because they are that good (and that addictive). This one has to be one of the best – I haven’t seen Suicide Squad but I’ve heard how bad it was, and this hilarious trailer for it just reinforces that.

4. Liza Koshy

Yep it’s that girl from Vine – she’s absolutely huge on YouTube (and has been for a while now). I prefer her earlier videos but most of her stuff is pretty funny. I remember having a particularly bad morning (no shower, no food, terrible mindset) and I just binge-watched loads of her stuff for hours. Afterwards I felt like becoming a YouTuber myself (though realistically I would never do that) and actually got in the shower to start doing things with my day.

5. Bad Lip Reading

I hope that you’ve seen the bad lip reading version of Trump’s inauguration by now – if you haven’t, please do. It might make you feel just a tiny bit better about current affairs. I love this kind of humour anyway, and love to do my own bad lip reading/voice overs for movies and TV shows (mostly if I’ve had a drink). It’s simple but brilliant humour. I dare you not to at least do an internal giggle.

Bad Lip Reading and Honest Trailers are 2 of my go to’s. I also like Markiplier (his older stuff in particular like 5 Nights at Freddy’s) and Good Mythical Morning. 🙂

  • It’s not a channel but it’s impossible not to laugh at this clip!!!

I actually binged on the Bad Lip Readings videos last night. Didn’t last without chuckle within the first 30 seconds, of course. Such a brilliant channel, haha

I love Jenna and Honest Trailers! I’ve never watched RuPaul’s Drag Race, I’m not even really sure what it is…. Is it a beauty pageant for drag queens? Is it like Project Runway? Is it a dating show? I really have no idea. I also had never seen that girl Liza but she kind of reminds me of Jenna Marbles and I laughed out loud at her ‘I need friends’ in the card section and also at her trying on the ninja turtles onesie. That was relatable to me. The last time I was in Target I tried on a shark costume and did a little dance and not gonna lie, it was amazing. Scrubs made me leave it behind though because it took up practically the whole trolley….

I wish we had Target here but also I would be SO BROKE HOLY SHIT!

I lose so much time on old Buzzfeed Yellow videos and (now that she’s left that gang) Safiya’s solo videos. It’s like white noise for my brain. So soothing.

Oh Ru Paul’s Drag Race is the best talent show on TV. It’s kinda like America’s Next Top Model in some ways?! The new season is coming out later this month and I cannot wait for it.
Haha yeah her humour is quite similar, maybe that’s why I like it. I do love her many, many puns. I’ve never been to a Target before but I would like to!
Ah nice – I heard a while back that Buzzfeed copied Youtubers content so I tend to stay away from them!

      • Quinn says:

Really? I never heard that! Then again I’m (obviously) very out of the loop when it comes to youtubers! Buzzfeed Yellow is the sort of … girl-centric one I don’t know if that matters? Maybe it’s better that Safiya has struck out on her own then. Target is a WONDERLAND. I seriously have to be physically dragged out of there. Scrubs finds my obsession both amusing and frustrating in equal measure.

        • Lauren says:

Target looks a bit like Walmart to me, like full of everything you could possibly need and super cheap? I love Tiger for their cheap home bits and stationery, though the Edinburgh branch closed for a rebuild of the shopping centre it was in -weeps-

Actually just disregard any opinions – I just welled up when I clicked the music video for Beauty and the Beast (John Legend and Ariana) and the familiar tune started up so clearly my emotions are out of whack today. CALM DOWN NOSTALGIA!

Awww yes love a bit of honest trailers! I always tend to watch gaming videos when I’m really sad, which is weird cause I’m not much of a gamer, I just think it’s the fact I don’t have to think about it and it’s like extra escapism cause the’re playing a game as well. My go to gaming channel for anxiety emergencies is definitely DanandPhilGames they’re always guaranteed to get a laugh out of me!
