6 Poems That’ll Give You Life

I’m becoming more and more interested in poetry recently. It’s such a beautiful form of expression, and though there are rules (like there are with most things), poetry seems to be a very versatile way of writing.

Each of these six poems have such beautiful truths about them, and you lovelies know how partial I am to some open and honest writing. Anything inspiring, genuine and personal makes a fantastically motivational read.

I have yet to try to write my own poetry – though I definitely will seeing as it is one of my New Year resolutions – so I thought I would share with you a few of my favourite poems I have found so far on the world wide web. I hope that they give you either or all of the following: feels, support, inspiration or hope.

She was a savage
A fucking brute
Unafraid to fight
For what she wanted
Brave enough to go
to war
For what she deserved.
– R. H. Sin

Twenty years from now
You will be more disappointed
By the things you didn’t do
Than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbour.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
– Mark Twain

Yesterday I
Was clever,
So I wanted
To change
The world.
Today I am
Wise, so I
Am changing
– Rumi

They won’t tell you fairytales
Of how girls can be dangerous and still win.
They will only tell you stories
Where girls are sweet and kind
And reject all sin.
I guess to them
It’s a terrifying thought,
A red riding hood
Who knew exactly
What she was doing
When she invited the wild in.
-Nikita Gill

I walked a mile with Pleasure;
She chatted all the way;
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.
I walked a mile with Sorrow;
And ne’er a word said she;
But, oh! The things I learned from her
When Sorrow walked with me.
– Robert Browning Hamilton

So, do it. Decide.
Is this the life
You want to live?
Is this the person
You want to love?
Is this the best you can be?
Can you be stronger?
Kinder? More compassionate?
Breathe in.
Breathe out
And decide.
– Meredith Grey
