What’s In A Sunday?

Ah man, as soon as I wrote this title I thought how this blog post could be misinterpreted as a recipe for an ice-cream Sundae, and then I remembered they have different spellings (motherhood decreases your brain power), but now I kinda want ice-cream.

Anyway, what’s your Sunday like? Similarly to a Sundae, Sundays are made up of key ingredients to make it a proper, run-of-the-mill Sunday. Not that Sundays can’t be spectacular – if you have more social plans and disposable income than I do (which wouldn’t be hard), you can make Sundays brilliant. Art exhibitions. The cinema. Pubs for Sunday roast. Pizza parties for hangover cures.

This is just my short but vital list of Sunday things that need to happen on Sundays to make them proper Sundays.

70’s music

I’m not sure why, but 70’s music is just appropriate for Sundays. Currently I am particularly into ABBA’s “If It Wasn’t For The Night”, Talking Heads’ “Psycho KIller” and David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel”.

I reckon I have been scrolling on PostSecret every single Sunday for about… 6 or 7 years now? It’s something I really look forward to each week, because not only do I love art and postcards and secrets, but I love how emotive they can be. Some really resonate, some make me laugh, some make me sad. It’s just a must-do thing on Sundays (as that is the day they post new secrets).

Flicking through my planner and suddenly remembering that thing I have planned this coming week

Anybody else do that every single week?

boring adult crap

This includes cleaning, putting the bin(s) out, thinking about meals for the next week. You know, grown-up things.

art and writing

Even if it’s terrible, even if it’s just a sentence or a doodle, I try to make my Sunday evenings (or whatever baby-free time I have during a Sunday) to do something creative. I’m not sure why I always try to do something like that on a Sunday especially, perhaps it is the inspiration derived from PostSecret.

cooking something comforting and hearty

Not necessarily a Sunday roast, but something big and yummy that will make me want to fall asleep at 7pm. Lasagne. Cottage pie. Stew. Something like that, followed by a Sundae.

What’s do you normally do on Sundays? Or are you much more spontaneous and active than I am? Let me know in the comments!
