Articles About Entertaiment

The entertainment industry has demonstrated a seemingly infinite potential for creative remix and continues to evolve in response to ever-changing consumer demands. Oliver and Barstsch (2010) state that entertainment can be defined as an activity understood objectively, involving communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offering pleasure to the audience, requires an audience to exist, and occurs in a passive form.

The word entertain derives from the Latin intertenere, meaning “to hold inside.” Its Indo-European root is ten, meaning to stretch. The term has come to mean anything affording pleasure, diversion, or amusement: from a crossword puzzle to a lavish ball; from a film to a theater show. It has also taken on more serious forms, such as ceremonies, religious festivals, and satire.
