The idea of entertainment has come to imply fun and diversion, although many forms of entertainment have serious purposes. A person may choose a piece of entertainment for personal amusement, as with the solving of a crossword puzzle; an elaborate banquet or party is designed to entertain guests; a play or dance is intended to be entertaining to a large audience; and so on. The various media of entertainment evolve and adapt to their surroundings, and the capacity for creative remix has ensured the longevity of familiar themes.
