Entertaiment is a large and complex subject, encompassing a broad range of activities that are generally associated with amusement or leisure. Depending on the context, it can be applied to anything from a personal selection of entertainment media (either pre-recorded or interactive) for use alone or in company; to a banquet or other event adapted for two; to the staging of performances intended for thousands, and so on. The word entertainment derives from the Medieval Latin word intertenere, derived from the Indo-European root ten (to hold inside).
