Entertaiment is a wide range of activities that have the potential to entertain an individual, a group or a population. Entertainment may have a serious purpose – such as a religious festival or a satire – or it can be a form of education. It can be passive, such as watching a film or a television show, or active, such as playing a game or sports. It can also be creative, such as writing music or poetry. A familiar example is the story of Scheherazade in professional storytelling traditions, which has been retold in music by composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel, made into a movie by Pasolini and even used to develop innovative video games.
